Overpriced and Poor Quality

It’s downright bizarre that someone expects to be paid $25 for this software. At first glance, it’s a decent WYSIWYG Markdown editor, which is what I was looking for, but it’s not very usable. I got a lot of crashes, such as for toggling iCloud on and off in Preferences.

But the usability issues are also pretty deep. The app seems to want to divorce itself from the filesystem, and you cannot tell where the document that you’re editing lives. It always says “Textnut” in the title bar, and you cannot find the document on disk. There’s a Save option, but it seems to do nothing. If you want an .md file on disk, you have to always do an Export. Nor does the app get a folder in iCloud drive like some other apps, which is what you would expect the iCloud option to do. The library concept is unclear and there is no app guidance.

Bottom line: I did not trust this app to save my changes somewhere, and I could not verify that what I was typing was going to persist on disk after another crash. There’s no way I’m paying $25 for this, but I’m glad at least there’s an evaluation mode for this app, unlike Byword. Btw, should mention that I found another editor called Typora that seems to do what I want, and actually persists files to disk without crashing.
